Organization will provide access to 1) free pregnancy testing followed by an ultrasound at our main site to positive test patients. Alliance is a maternity desert and access to care for pregnancy is critical. 2) sexually transmitted infections (STI) testing/treatment for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Trichomonas and testing/referral for treatment for Syphilis. These STI’s have been associated with increased risk of poor maternal and neonatal outcomes e.g. miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth.
Six high school students are on financial assistance, meaning their families live below the Federal Poverty Guideline and already receive 50% financial assistance for school tuition at a local private school. This also means that their guardians do not have time or energy to help with fundraising to support their travel. Having their educational trip to Washington D.C. paid for would be a wonderful way to broaden their scope of learning about their world.
Funding to support a mobile pharmacy program in Alliance. The grant will cover essential program expenses; salaries for a pharmacist and Community Health Worker (CHW), costs associated with dispensing medications and education, fuel for the mobile pharmacy, and office lease at the Alliance Commons. This ensures access to medications, health education, and flu vaccinations to address healthcare disparities.
An iconic landmark in Alliance is seeking funding to remodel office space on the second floor into a bridal suite with a vintage decor. This involves repainting, adding a full size mirror, vintage vanities, vintage clothes racks, couches ,chairs and other furniture. Weddings will become a revenue stream for this non-profit historical organization.
Launched in January 2024, pairs experienced mentors with participants who are seeking job readiness guidance and require support in overcoming significant life challenges. We need funding to sustain and expand this initiative, which enhances employability skills, increases confidence, and connects participants to community resources. Your support will help us maintain our mentoring coordinator position, train more mentors, and serve at least 10 participants.
This grant would enable our organization to put together a prevention-focused coalition with at least 5 individuals and 3 agencies to come together and plan this project to fruition. Stark County has several coalitions focused on suicide and substance use prevention, but does not currently have one with the overarching goal of preventing future mental health needs in a holistic way. This grant would provide opportunity to begin this coalition planning held in the Alliance community.
Pregnant women with untreated Chlamydia, Gonorrhea or Trichomonas are at increased risk for poor maternal and neonatal outcomes: miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth, low birth weight. Untreated Syphilis infections in pregnant women can lead to stillbirth or infant demise shortly after birth. It is important to identify these STIs as early as possible. We will offer these tests at their pregnancy testing appt. To minimize healthcare barriers, we will offer STI testing/treatment at no cost.
Funding will allow a local organization to recycle and repurpose at least two aluminum wheelchair ramps. These ramps will not only improve the lives of two Alliance homeowners but will continue to benefit numerous individuals over the ramps' lifetime, as they will remain the property of the organization and continue to be repurposed. Your support will provide hope to return home from a rehabilitation facility, spend time in nature, get a haircut, or be picked up without the need of EMS.
We are requesting funds to cover gaps in funding for clinical treatment for high-risk clients who lack other financial options. Issues include insurance gaps, high deductibles, and financial hardship. Additionally, we request 200 bus passes to help Alliance residents travel to Canton for drug screens, treatment, court, CPS, medical appointments, parenting classes, and more, addressing transportation as a significant barrier when services are not available in Alliance.
We are requesting funding to transition outdated tennis courts into pickleball courts at Maple Beach Park. This underserved park is located in a community development target area and will be receiving a complete overhaul.
Seeking support for our after-school program for middle school kids which provides Alliance City Schools students with enriching activities and dedicated homework assistance in a supportive environment. To sustain and enhance this essential program, we urgently need funds. Your contribution will help us continue to offer valuable opportunities for personal growth, academic success, and the development of new skills, ensuring students thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
We are requesting funding to provide transportation for girls in grades 6 through 12 in Alliance, Ohio, to attend our mentoring program. Many of these students lack reliable transportation which prevents them from participating in our life-changing mentorship. The funds will cover transportation costs, enabling these young individuals to access the guidance and support they need to overcome challenges and succeed. Your support will help us remove this barrier and positively impact more lives.
This local organization currently assists with addressing many aspects of food insecurity needs. One of our most recent efforts involves assisting the teachers with students in BL Miller and West Branch Middle School by filling reusable totes with individually wrapped food items and beverages. The students have access to these totes throughout the day if they are hungry. They can also be utilized if they have something after school and they forget to bring a snack or don't have the means to bring one.
In 2022, this local organization provided clothing for 460 families. In 2023, they provided clothing for 594 families, a 23% increase over 2022. Funding would be used to buy "discount" age-appropriate clothing for elementary, middle and high school aged children in the Alliance, Sebring, Louisville, and Marlington schools.
To effectively meet the growing needs of our community, this local organization must expand our dedicated staff to ensure we have the right team in place to deliver high-quality support and programming. With additional staffing, we can reach more men, women, and children across Stark County, particularly those experiencing the difficulties of low-income living or involvement with the justice system, and offer the personal guidance they need to transform their lives.
This local organization has a chapter in The Alliance Commons where we accept donations, teach classes, and operate a resale store. For one of our classes, the base fee is $15, and that fee is adjusted based on the cost of the materials used in the class and the length of the class. In order to make these classes more financially affordable to the local residents, we are asking for a grant to cover this base fee per participant.
In the past year operating a grocery store within the Alliance Commons, we've seen 5631 customers shop, with nearly half of the transactions being paid with an EBT/SNAP card. 51% of all transactions were incentivized in some manner, whether from EBT matches or vouchers, showing how great the need continues to help residents reduce their grocery costs.
